Do You Have a Big Cat? You’ll Need a Large Cat Flap!
My cat Cassie is a wanderer. She is a big cat, like Jennyanydots, the old grumpy cat in the Broadway musical Cats. But unlike Jennyanydots who loves to sleep, Cassie is a very active cat that loves to go around the neighborhood, jumping from one wall fence to another. When she learned how to walk, she also learned how to travel to other places without my knowing. That was not a problem to me; I know that cats naturally love to travel and explore the world outside. The problem, however, was the continuous and repetitious effort that I had to spend just to open and close the door for her whenever she pleased to go outside for playing or go in for dinner. At first I had the patience. Until it became pretty irritating.
I guess everyone knows how focused a writer should be in writing. Ideas come in lag. And when they arrive, they arrive fast. But as soon as these ideas arrive on my table, that’s when Cassie begins to meow like she’s deprived of love and affection, and then she scratches her paws on the door, indicating how much she wants to go outside. Of course, as a good pet owner, I would open the door for her. But as soon as I get back to my seat to proceed to my work, my ideas are already gone, and there’s no place nor dimension in the thin air of my room where I could grasp those ideas back to me. I should not blame Cassie, of course. I should blame me for not installing a cat flap on my door. Or at least that’s what my friends tell me.
I brought this dilemma to my friends. I told them I plan to buy a cat flap. But my friends at work recommended me to install a petsafe cat flap on my door. I knew what a cat flap is. But it was the first time I heard about the petsafe cat flap. They explained it to me in detail. An ordinary cat door, they say, allows a cat to pass through whenever she wants to. But at the same time, it also allows other cats and other small animals to enter and exit your house as freely as they want to. But with a petsafe cat flap, only my cat and my cat alone can access the door. This is because petsafe cat flaps use a special mechanism to exclusively let a cat in and out of the house. This mechanism may either be an electromagnet or an infrared. This way, I can ensure the freedom of my cat while protecting the safety of my house.
I raised a few concerns though. I told them how big my cat is and that there might not be a flap enough for her size. They laughed at me. They told me the market for cat doors is wide; I can always find a flap that fits the size of my cat. They praised me, however, for considering the size of my cat. One reason why some pet doors fail is because people buy flaps without putting into consideration the size of their pet. I searched the Internet and there are really many large cat flaps out there for huge cats like Cassie. I ordered one online and three days after, the cat flap was already installed on our backyard door.
Since then, life became easier and more comfortable for me and Cassie. I can proceed with my work while she can enjoy the backyard anytime she wants. I was glad I bought and installed a large petsafe cat flap. I am now the one who recommends it to my other friends. And I am also recommending it to you. Cassie’s large cat flap is just a simple proof that, indeed, size does not matter.
